Why did anh do write “the happiest refugee”?

Anh Do was born in Vietnam on June 2nd, 1977. He travelled to Australia as a refugee in 1980 after spending many months in a Malaysian refugee camp. He went to school at St Aloysius College on a part scholarship until year 12.

He demonstrated creativity and humour when his basket ball shoes didn't have any grip so when he was off he poured lemonade on the soles to make them sticky.
Another example of humour is when Anh is mugged and the guy wanted him to give him his wallet so he did and when he saw the name he said "Anne Doo" so he thought it was a girls wallet. Anh also showed initiative when he decided to help out his mum by earning money by delivering newspaper and pamphlets.

The hardships that Anh and his family faced helped him overcome the obstacles and give him the persistence and drive he needed to succeed. Anh Do studied law and business at UTS. Also during his time at UTS he ran a market stall that sold American Indian artifacts. His stall grew to four franchise stores.

Anh displayed loyalty when he started the market stall that he ran his his friend Rachel. Rachel trusted Anh so much that she gave him all her money to invest in the business. When they stopped the business he didn't forget what she did so Anh paid her back all the profits they made. Rachel made triple her money back.

Anh shows great determination when trying to locate his dad that he hadn't seen for years. he drove all the way to Melbourne through the night until he found him.

Anh Do graduated with a law/business degree. Instead of following that path he decided to become a stand up comedian after discovering that he could earn more money working less hours as a comedian. His humour and his ability to connect to people has helped him to become one of Australia’s most successful comedians.

Anh Do has featured in Deal or No Deal, Dancing With The Stars, The Footy Show, Thank God you’re here and Anh does Vietnam. He has also acted in many movies and television series including Footy Legends, which was directed by his brother Khoa Do.

Anh Do has written many books in his career including some children’s books and an autobiography about his experiences. He has also won the 2011 Independent Booksellers Book of the Year, 2011 Joint winner (with musician Paul Kelly) of the Biography of the Year, 2011 Best Newcomer and 2011 Book of the Year.

Anh decided to take up art so he skipped some of his university lectures to visit TAFE to learn more about art. So far he has already been chosen as a finalist for the Archibald prize.

He was passionate and committed to Suzie, the love of his life. He didn't give up on her eventually they got married and had 3 boys together. He describes her as "the girl with the smile that lights up my life".
